Recorded in Paris (April 11th and June 20th 1975)
Georges-Edouard NOUEL (piano, electric fender piano, ldr),
Louis XAVIER (bass),
Saint-Yves DOLPHIN (cowbell, guiro, tambour-bel-air, perc),
Dany CAPRON (conga, cowbell, guiro, ti-bois, perc),
Fabrice RABOISSON (drum, perc).
For sure this new inventive album « will help to know more than ever this young French pianist highly talented Georges-Edouard Nouel whose cooperation is sought by the best French and American musicians living in Paris. Whenever he performs solo or with an orchestra, he causes a sensation. He’s carefully chosen musicians to perform with :
Louis Xavier (conductor, composer, arranger, double bass and guitar bass player exclusively used for this recording,)
Saint-Yves Dolphin and Dany Capron (who are among the first percussionists in the country),
and Patrice Raboisson (drummer and percussionist) who attracted particularly attention inside Jean-Pierre Barbat Dolphin Orchestra at the recent Angoulême Festival.
This record is surely going to be a revelation to people who never have the opportunity to listen to these ve musicians who achieved it. It is a genuine jazz music with a determinedly well-structured form with delightful Caribbean taste (except Fabrice Raboisson, all the other musicians are from Martinique) ; furthermore the percussionists play as well usual percussion as island percussion (guiro, ti-bois, tambour bel- air…)
Most of the album titles are Georges-Edouard Nouel compositions except :
Cesca from Louis Xavier,
and Alfie, one of the successful Bacharach and David hit.
Meci Bon Die, an old and popular Caribbean gently and ironically protest song performed by Harry Belafonte and others, has been arranged by Georges-Edouard Nouel.
Mazurka…, it’s, of course, Creole Mazurka which has nothing to see with the other one. Nouel dedicated it to his mother. The ti-bois are really brought out. Note that the rhythmic section is one part of the present Synchro-Rhythmic-Eclectic Language whose leader is Louis Xavier. This group was created by the late Eddy Gaumont… You will listen to, among others, an outstanding bass-guitar part from Louis Xavier.
The oriental color of Chandernagor comes from past ages. It is not this odious poor quality orientalism. There’s a very compound ethnic mix in the Caribbean Islands called also West Indies.
Cesca (a charming woman name) has been composed by Louis Xavier…
Chodo is the name of a festivity drink which is in Guadeloupe a kind of egg flip but which, in Martinique, also contains white rum ! …
